That's the talk about origin of Yuno's "Elf Soul".
Yuno, like all the other Elf Reincarnations is born Human in the present Era, but born with the Soul of an Elf (in Yuno's case its is Half-Elf).

They explained that during that arc. The Elf King's baby was like reincarnated into Yuno's body. That was the reason he couldn't fully take possession of Yuno's since he wasn't as powerful.

Since the soul that possessed Yuno don't have any memories of what took place 500 years ago he retained his own consciousness. Basically the reason why elven soul possessed the body of clover people is because they are the present person having the same that the elven have 500 years ago. Licht even said his gratitude to Yuno stating that it feels as if he was with his own son and not Yuno in particular. Since if Yuno would really be the real son of Licht then his appearance from the start should be somewhat like an elf right.

Yuno is the REINCARNATION of his son. As in, his son died, and was born 500 years later as Yuno. If you don't know what reincarnation means please look it up, it's a pretty common concept in Buddhism and other known religions.

But he wasnt reiincarnated. The reincarnation spell puts the soul of the elves into human vessils that share atributes with them. its not 1-1 or else they should have just been elves and the bs with awakening the souls should not have happened
